The value of aerial archaeological photography was acknowledged a century ago when the first aerial photograph was taken of Stonehenge in 1906 from a balloon.

Since then, in addition to its role in fieldwork and the detailed recording of sites, aerial photography has revealed many earthwork shadows, soil marks and crop marks which have led to important archaeological finds and subsequent historical discoveries.

Both the Sky Eye Balloon and Mast are well suited to this application and have benefits over other methods of aerial photography.
